Description

This piece was commissioned for the 2007 Wisconsin State Honors jazz ensemble, so the title (Cheese Head) is especially appropriate.  There is a warm introductory chorale by the winds which leads to the hot, samba groove of the chart.  There is a need for a solid piano player for the most effective performance of this work, and there is an important percussion part that complements the drum set. Also provided are extensive ideas for the alto soloist, but tenor, trumpet or vibes may be substituted if an alto improvisor is not available.
