Description
Volumes I and II edited by Ulrich Siegele. In 1617, Steigleder (1593-1635) began a lifelong appointment at the Collegiate Church in Stuttgart. In 1624, Steigleder published an overview of the forms of imitative keyboard music employed at that time and explored their potential. Its range is marked by the first and final pieces, a fantasy in the Sweelinck style and an Italianate canzona. Steigleder did not compose the twelve pieces specifically for this publication, but rather selected them from pre-existing works. The appendix to Volume I contains a chorale setting Wann mein Stuendlein. The appendix to Volume II contains three pieces handed down under the name of Adam Steigleder. Introduction in Ger. and Eng., illustrations and critical commentary in both volumes. Volume I, 47 p., Volume II, 62 p.
